Hi all….
I am writing Gogo’s 9 months update. It seems like yesterday celebrating her first Diwali,Christmas, New Year etc. The past nine months have been filled with some of the greatest challenges, joy and surprises i have have ever known in my life.
I wanted to share some of my greatest challenges, joys, and surprises of being a new mom. As I’m sure many of you can relate, and also it may just help encourage some of you.
Challenges:-
When you have a newborn, you have to wake up to feed them, once they begin to get past the newborn stage and they can go longer periods of time between feedings, same goes with sleep. For us, Gogo started sleeping almost through the night (about 6 hours straight), somewhere between 3-4 months, but her daytime naps are still really hard to predict.
Gogo was in exclusive breastfeeding, it was very late when i realised that she is not ready to feed through bottle. It becomes very difficult while travelling with infants. She was totally dependent on me, this is very exhausting when you want to spend some time with your friends and you cannot leave them for sometime so i mostly started to avoid public gathering for some time. But thankfully now she has started feeding through bottle and yes she takes solid too now.
Introducing solids was a bit dramatic, when she turned six months we started solids, Cerelac was the first food we started with, Gogo would not only spit out the food, but she would literally shudder and gag at the taste of anything in her mouth other than breastmilk. Slowly we introduced fruits puree, daal, khichdi etc. it was difficult in begining but with time she started accepting the different tastes.
Surprises:-
It feels amazing watching Sunil grow in his role as a Daddy. I fall in love with him all over again when I see him with our little girl, from the first time he held “Gogo” in his arms, I watched him embrace his role as a daddy with such ease. It seemed so natural in fact, it was almost as if he had been a dad his whole life lol.
Sunil is one of the most caring and sweet daddies to our little girl. He loves to play with her and sing to her, and he even gets her dressed and all! There is nothing that melts my heart quite like seeing him love our little girl! Pick a boo is their best game it seems.
It is so sweet to see “Gogo” grow, develop, and learn new things! It is also equally as sweet to watch the personality god gave them start to unfold. So far, “Gogo” is such a sweet and happy baby. She rarely gets fussy or upset, unless she is truly hungry or tired, and she is perfectly content just playing with some toys, she likes watching people from window. Like most babies of her age, she loves to talk, explore new things, interested in what her parents are eating and she recently started to clap when we put on music. She even have started closing the cap of a bottle. She can stand anywhere with some support. As much as I want her to stay little forever, I also look forward to watching more of her personality unfold each day!
She already seems to love music, and can’t resist moving her hands, and running to the beat. We started playing two songs for her when she was 3 months, ( Baba Black Sheep & wheels on the bus ). The moment she hears the first few beats of these songs she instantly goes into excited mode and Sunil and I can’t help but laugh!
I see things a bit different than I did before becoming a mom. I have only been a mom for 9 months, yet I am already convinced that having a baby refines you in the best possible way.
